Economies as Gendered Structure

While at the university of Manchester in the mid1990s, I worked with Jasmine Gideon and Barbara Evers to develop the concept of economies as gendered structures.

In 1997 we produced several Gender Aware Country Economic Reports, a selection of which can be downloaded here :
The concept of an economy as a gendered structure is also used in

Diane Elson and Rosie McGee, ‘Gender Equality, Bilateral Program Assistance and Structural Adjustment: Policy and Procedures’  World Development 23(11) 1995.

Diane Elson y Jasmine Gideon ,‘Genero En El Analisis De Las Economias Nacionales’ in Thera van Osch (ed) Crecer con la Mujer. Opportunidades para el Desarrollo economico centroamericano, Embajada Real de los Paises Bajos, Costa Rico, 1997.

Jasmine Gideon  ‘Looking at Economies as Gendered Structures: An Application to Central America’ Feminist Economics, 5(1)1999.
